Dieter Laser is a German actor well known internationally most recently for his performance as the infamous Dr. Heiter in Tom Six‘s The Human Centipede film. Dieter Laser has enjoyed a long and highly successful career, appearing on the most important stages of German language, and starring in 65 films and television shows.

Dieter Laser began acting in the theater with roles such as Macbeth, Don Juan, Peer Gynt, Valmont, and Captain Ahab. His first film work was the title role of John Glueckstadt in 1975, for which he won the German Film Award in Gold. He has worked opposite fellow greats Burt Lancaster and Julie Christie (Fathers and Sons), Glenn Close (Meeting Venus), John Malkovich (The Ogre), as well as Oscar nominated films (The Glass Cell) and popular television series (LEXX).

His latest work in The Human Centipede film involves the idea of an individual pursuing an intense fantasy to connect people surgically via their gastric systems to form a human centipede. The Human Centipede (First Sequence) features Dieter Laser as the organized and methodical “Doctor Heiter” and actors Ashley C. Williams (“Lindsay”), Ashlynn Yennie (“Jenny”), and Akihiro Kitamura (“Katsuro”) as his victims. The Human Centipede’s self-aware second installment (Full Sequence) features actor Laurence Harvey as the troubled worshipper of the first film who idolizes Doctor Heiter, and in an ingenious twist, brings back actress Ashlynn Yennie to play herself as the actress cast as “Jenny” in the first film. Tom Six wrote and directed both films, and produced them with his sister, fellow producer and talent manager, Ilona Six.

The mere mention of the films’ subject matter has polarized people. The films have received rave reviews and critical acclaim by audiences, as well as intense scorn and disdain by moralist groups, causing quite the media frenzy. The sequel was banned in the UK for a time although it is now available in the UK as well as the US. The films are already an art and cult classic in the United States, and have won several awards on the film festival circuit, with Dieter Laser rightly winning for Best Actor at the Austin Fantastic Fest festival, and being nominated for Best Villain at the Scream Awards festival.
