Hello USA, Meet Celleste – Canada’s Favorite Rock Starlet
December 11, 2011 in Celebrities, Jimmy Star Entertainment, Music, News Articles by Jimmy Star Entertainment
Celleste is one of those rare recording artists that transcends culture and country. With a listen to her growly voice, a gander at her gorgeous face, and a dose of her rock ‘n’ roll attitude it’s no wonder why she is Canada’s favorite. And now she is coming to the USA.
Crossing Borders
In many ways Celleste is more quintessentially American than, well, we Americans are. Her shapely taught bod and natural long locks speak to a nutrition that can only come from the midwest heartland, and her bohemian rock fashions evoke classic dusty Americana road trip scenes. Her lyrical ideas are born of yearning combined with earthy experience, and let’s not forget she sings and swaggers like this generation’s Janis Joplin.
Throughout history female rock stars have had a hard road, and just making one’s way has proved impossible for many. Yet Celleste makes it seem so easy with the meteoric rise of her debut album Ready to Fly in Canada’s wide music landscape, and on her own terms nonetheless. An entrepreneur and business woman in her own right, Celleste started her own independent record label called Mighty Music with producer and co-writer, Eric Dick. With the determination and work ethic of a Madonna, she launched herself, her way, and now faster than ever she is crossing the border to the USA.
With so few international artists ever able to break through the United States’ musical isolation, this is quite a feat. But then again, ”Never settle for less” is Celleste’s mantra, and actually Canada has done a lot to shape US music history. In fact Celleste combines attributes of many of Canada’s best, like the low rumble of Canadian Leonard Cohen, the perfect beauty of Canadian Shania Twain, the thoughtfulness of Canadian Joni Mitchell, the broad appeal of Canadian Bryan Adams, and the take me or leave me attitude of Canadian Alanis Morisette. Yes, Celleste is a power package, self-made, and hence is also befitting the American ideal of living your dream. So USA, meet Celleste.
Celleste is Ready to Fly
Celleste hails from Montreal and was largely influenced by the American rock bands of the 60s and 70s. Her musical style seamlessly blends together rock, folk, blues, country and pop, a combination she coins “Modern Classic Rock.” In her debut album Ready to Fly, Celleste draws from her own life experiences and tackles subjects as diverse as love, regret, abuse, peace, and female empowerment. “In order for me to perform with conviction and connect with my audience, my lyrics must be brutally honest and come straight from the heart,” says Celleste. “The most gratifying of moments is when my fans let me know my words have really touched their lives… so I strive for that kind of success in every song I write.”
Ready to Fly is packed with beautiful melodies, elaborate instrumentation, catchy songs, and of course Celleste’s unmistakable vocal prowess. While it is first and foremost a collection of rock songs, one thing that certainly stands out is the album’s diversity. “I’m not all about one thing, so why should my music be?”, explains Celleste. “I want to take the listener on a journey like some of my favorite albums did for me. What I loved about bands like Zeppelin was finding ‘Rock and Roll’ on the same album as ‘Going To California’. I think it’s all about the balance, almost like I can’t appreciate one without the other.”
Celleste launched Ready to Fly in Canada in May 2011 and has been amassing milestones ever since. Major radio play on over 40 stations, high rotation video play of her first singles Real Love and Beyond Words on Musimax and Much More Music channels (think MTV & VH1 in the USA), distribution in the largest Canadian music retailers HMV and Archambeault (think Virgin megastore or FYE in the US), a cover feature on Canada’s famed Summum magazine (think Maxim in the States), a successful concert tour, commercial song placement, and a partnership with ICE.com to have her own Vintage Glam jewelry collection have all added to the success of Celleste in Canada.
Welcome to the USA
When entertainment entrepreneur Jimmy Star first encountered Celleste, he was immediately impressed by her talent, saw her as a complete package, and invited her to be a featured guest on his USA based, internationally broadcast live entertainment talk radio show, The Jimmy Star Show. The American listener response proved astonishing and would ultimately lead to discussions of the next logical step, launching Celleste in the USA. Now Celleste and Mighty Music have newly teamed with Jimmy Star Entertainment to accomplish just that, and early industry feedback has been very promising. It appears that the USA really is hungry for the vintage appeal and refreshing sound that is Celleste, and is ready to give her a warm welcome.
