Walter T Shaw is an American author, producer, and media personality who originally gained fame as the world’s most notorious jewel thief. He appeared on television shows such as Oprah, Rachel Ray, Inside Edition, and Montel Williams after retiring from his career in crime as a spokesperson for burglary prevention.

Walter T Shaw’s 2008 memoir entitled A License to Steal chronicles the saga of his father, probably one of the most important inventors of our time, who was ripped off by corporate America and the mafia, and how this drove Walter himself to become one of the country’s most infamous jewel thieves, having taken an estimated $70 million from the rich and famous from Long Island to Florida. In the forward by Frank Langella, Langella writes, “Full of love, fear, violence, hate and the quest for redemption, this book is an unbelievable journey through life.”

Based on his book A License to Steal, Walter T Shaw has now produced a documentary film, Genius on Hold, recounting the epic story of his father, Walter L Shaw, an engineering genius who, almost half a century ago, invented the technology that transformed the rudimentary telephone system of the early 1900s into the foundation of today’s cutting-edge global telecommunications industry. The film is narrated by Frank Langella and focuses on corporate corruption of The Bell Companies. It features interviews with Walter T Shaw and notables of the time, as well as archives of US Senate and investigative hearings with a chilling effect.

Genius on Hold was written and directed by Gregory Marquette, produced by Walter T Shaw and has already recieved much critical acclaim. Genius on Hold was screened at the Festival de Cannes international film festival and is currently touring the international festival circuit.
