Derek Maki is an American actor, writer, and director. Derek Maki is best known for his independent film, Instant Dads, which won awards as Best Family Film and Best Feature Premier on the film festival circuit.

Instant Dads was written and directed by Maki and depicts the story of two homosexual men who through interesting circumstances suddenly find themselves needing to raise a young boy. Derek Maki stars in the film with Steve Hasley, Nina Kaczorowski, and Dominic Janes.

Derek Maki is also known as founder and president of Coolwater Productions which encourages and assists actors to make their own projects as vehicles for their career and has started a web tv series to highlight actors.
